The country of Malaysia offers some amazing contrasts. Whilst Kuala Lumpur is a rapidly expanding, modern, and hi-tech city, the world’s oldest rainforests can be found in the countryside. As well as the stunning beauty of the peninsular and Borneo, Malaysia itself also boasts perfect deserted beaches and awe-inspiring mountains, making it an amazing place to travel. Kuala Lumpur is a modern day, bustling city, dominated by the infamous Petronas Towers. The city is a diverse mixture of historic temples and mosques, space-age towers, shopping malls and traders’ stalls. The locals relax in the local cafes and tourists feast at the busy streetside stalls serving food from across the continent.
Day 1 Kuala Lumpur
A finely woven tapestry of Indian, Chinese and ethnic Malay cultures gives Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur its distinct identity, as well as its delicious array of cuisines - just follow the spicy aromas to the night market and dive straight in.
Day 2 Melaka
Climb into the backseat of a trishaw to explore the colonial streets of historic Melaka. Afterwards, take some time to wander about, absorbing Melaka's wonderful atmosphere.
Days 3-5 Taman Negara National Park
Venture into ancient rainforest in Malaysia's Taman Negara National Park, taking it all in from a canopy walk suspended high in the treetops. Brave river rapids in a longtail boat before returning to the guesthouse for a home-cooked Malay meal.
Day 6 Kuala Terengganu
Travel east towards the coastline, arriving in Kuala Terengganu. While here, trawl the local market for traditional handicrafts and batik sarongs or visit the stunning waterside mosques.
Days 7-9 Perhentian Islands
Swim in sparkling turquoise waters, snorkel among unspoilt reefs or swing in a hammock while on some of the most beautiful islands on the planet - Malaysia's Perhentian Islands.
Day 10 Kota Bharu
Discover the secrets of local silversmiths, watch giant kites being flown or learn the art of batik. Take time to sample the delicious regional delicacies such as nasi ulam and keropok losong.
Days 11-12 Island Hideaway
Stay with Intrepid's long-time friends in their traditional home on the shores of a picturesque lake. Wake to the sound of gibbon calls, walk through peaceful villages or swim in nearby waterfalls.
Days 13-14 Kuala Lumpur
Enjoy a city tour in Kuala Lumpur. At night, why not head down to Jalan Petaling to encounter its hotchpotch of hawkers and street merchants.
