22 day Itinerary:

Destination info

The island of Borneo lies in the South China Sea and is predominantly covered by dense rainforest, supporting an abundance of plant and animal life. Borneo’s ancient rainforests have, in some cases, remained virtually unchanged for many millions of years. It is said that this part of the world may have been the home of the earliest form of man, with findings from caves in Sarawak suggesting that man was here 40,000 years ago.

If you’ve spent years’ dreaming of longboat trips, of jungle trails, of smoky longhouses and local dances, Sarawak is exactly what you’re looking for. Sarawak is a stunning mix of tribal customs and untouched nature. From the scattered valley farms of the Kelabit Highlands to the bird’s-nest trading communities of the Niah Caves and the nomadic jungle Penan have their place.

Sabah has so much to offer that it’s really a case of either what your interests are, or if your greedy where to start. Do you want to see orang-utans, explore the untouched forests, ascend Mt Kinabalu or dive around the Sipadan reef? That is just to name a few of the highlights.

  • Location:

Day 1 Kuching
Discover a host of fun things to do in Kuching, a waterfront city at the gateway to Sarawak.
Day 2 Bako National Park
Explore pristine jungle trails in Bako National Park and spot odd-looking proboscis monkeys.
Day 3 Kuching
Watch orangutans at play in the Semenggoh Orangutan Sanctuary before returning to Kuching.
Day 4 Iban Longhouse
Be welcomed in the longhouses of the Iban people and spend an evening learning about their amazing history and culture. Visit nearby waterfalls on a guided jungle walk, gain insights into the locals' day-to-day life and discover their fascinating headhunting history.

Travel deep into Mulu National Park. Explore Wind and Clearwater Caves, and climb the historic Pinnacles Trail.
Day 8 Headhunters' Trail/Limbang
Hike along the ominously named Headhunters Trail, once used by warring tribes.

Day 9 Survivor Island

The Island is full of mud volcanoes, jungle walking tracks and is surorunded by beautiful beaches with amazing snorkelling opportunities.
Days 10-11 Kota Kinabalu
Dive back into city life in Kota Kinabalu. Nestled between sea and jungle, Sabah's capital is a great base for exploring.
Day 12 Dusun Village
Enjoy a village homestay in the shadow of Mt Kinabalu, absorbing the warmth and passion of the local Dusun people.
Days 13-14 Mt Kinabalu
Towering above the coastal plains of Borneo, Mt Kinabalu is the centrepiece of the vast Kinabalu National Park. Experience all its glory on a trekking adventure.
Days 15-16 Poring Hot Springs
Wake early to enjoy staggering views and sunrise atop Mt Kinabalu. Scramble down for a restorative soak in the Poring Hot Springs.

Day 19 Turtle Island
Travel to the idyllic shores of Turtle Island. Witness giant turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs by moonlight.
