The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is the 13th most populous country in the world and is one of the ‘next eleven’ economies. Despite its troubled past, Vietnam is also a pretty country and has its share of beautiful and tranquil coastline. A French colonial possession from the mid-1800s until shortly after the end of WWII, it is not surprising that lots of the architecture has a French look, especially in the big cities. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City look in places like Paris.

  • Location: Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta

Day 1 Ho Chi Minh City
Perhaps arrive early to see the city's star attractions, including the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and War Remnants Museum.

Days 2-3 Mekong Delta
Cruise the mighty Mekong before spending the night with local friends at a homestay by the water.

Days 4 to 8: 5 Days

Bask on Nha Trang's golden beaches, take a boat trip to nearby islands or sample sumptuous seafood. For an artistic interlude, head to the Long Thanh Gallery which showcases a collection of extraordinary black and white images capturing everyday Vietnamese moments.

Days 6-8 Hoi An

Almost untouched by time, Hoi An is enthralling. Wander through the atmospheric Phung Hung Old House or check out the carp-shaped rain spouts on the Quan Cong Temple roof. Get a dose of rustic rural charm on a bike ride through the countryside.

  • Location: Hue to Hanoi

As well as an array of ancient imperial ruins, Hue has some other claims to fame - it's the birthplace of degustation-style Vietnamese cuisine, the centre of Vietnamese Buddhism and boasts the country's greatest cyclo-to-person ratio.

Day 12 Hanoi
Soak up the atmospheric Old Quarter on a walking tour. Afterwards continue exploring; spend some dong at the eclectic shops along Pho Hang Gai, check out the Dong Xuan Market or catch a water-puppet show.

Days 14-15 Hanoi
There's time for a final Vietnamese feast back in the capital.

Accommodation

Hotels (10 nts), homestay (1 nt), overnight trains (3 nts)

The style of accommodation described in the day to day itinerary is a guideline. On rare occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our usual accommodation. A similar standard of accommodation will be used in these instances.

Accommodation on this trip is on a twin/multi share basis. Throughout the trip we request that our hotels prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we are arriving prior to normal check-in time. However this is not always possible which means we will not be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination.

Meals

While travelling with us you will experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest favourite restaurants during your trip. On our camping trips we often cook the region's specialties so you don't miss out. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat generally not all meals are included in the trip price.

This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though.

The meals included are; 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner. Allow USD $250 for meals not included.
