The USA is a melting pot of cultures all thrown together over the last 200 years by the mass immigration to the ‘New World’ by Europeans, Asians, South Americans, Africans to name a few. Made up of 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii the USA is huge! You have a bit of everything in the USA - including the most famous and cosmopolitan cities New York, Los Angeles and breathtaking National Parks like Yosemite and Yellowstone.
This tour operates in both directions, from Los Angeles to San Francisco and San Francisco to Los Angeles.
After a short tour of Hollywood we bid the City of Angels farewell and head through California on day one to the vast swathes of Arizona's cactus-prickled desert. After spending an evening along the Colorado River we explore America's premier National Park, and find out why it is called the Grand Canyon. Keep your feet firmly on the ground or swoop above it all on an optional flight. One thing's for sure though, this place looks incredible from any angle, especially walking along the rim at sunset.

Next, Las Vegas - the greatest show on earth! The Strip, the shows, the casinos, the clubs; Sin City's glitziest and brashest spots are sure to impress as you cruise the Las Vegas Boulevard on an included limo ride! Hop onto one of the world's highest thrill rides at Vegas' Stratosphere and it won't just be your head that's spinning. And if that's not enough, take a helicopter flight down The Strip or just gamble the night away in one of the world class casinos.

Heading through Central California we take a scenic drive into the Yosemite National Park region and a chance to hike or bike through the extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths and spectacular waterfalls. Keep your eyes peeled for black bears. Coyote roam freely as well and when the sun goes down, their howling often echoes amidst pines and sequoias. Probably one of north America's most stunning national parks. Admit it; this is what clicks the spirit of the great outdoors up a notch or two!

On our last day together we head back west through California's gold country, where in 1848 the finding of a single nugget triggered a stampede of gold-seekers known as the 49'ers, before arriving at the home of the beatnik generation, San Francisco.
Tour ends at approx 17:00 hrs in San Francisco on day 7.

Minimum age is 18 years. Maximum age is 38 years
A mixture of camping and hotels. A total of 4 nights camping is included and 2 en-route hotels which you will pay for locally at a cost of approximately $30-$50 per night.
There is a $10 per day contribution to a food kitty that as a group you will decide what to buy and cook.
Throughout your programmes you will have the support and guidance of the programme co-ordinator and team. You will be provided with competent assistance and help with any questions or advice you may need during your stay.
You will be assigned a personal travel advisor who will co-ordinate your programme with you. Feel free to contact them at any time before you go, or when you are on your travels.
In addition, you will have access to a 24 hour emergency contact number so you can contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.
Between 6 and 13 people with one tour leader.
The age range is 18-38 and early to mid twenties are the most common ages.
There will be a fair bit of walking and hiking on the tour as well as the opportunity to do lots of activities. So you should be relatively fit but dont forget that activities are optional so you can do the trip at your own pace.
No, the majority of our travellers are solo travellers and you will meet lots of people on your tour!
Don't worry, your fantastic tour leader will show you how to put your tent up and use your camping equipment.
For TrekAmerica camping tours you will need to budget for the food kitty. This is usually US$10 a day however see individual tour pages for specific details. This will cover all of your meals while camping but does not cover meals during hotel stops or when the group chooses to sample regional cuisine. Depending on the tour you choose, there may be en-route hotel nights paid locally and the cost will be shown on the itinerary. You should budget for each of these night stops. We recommend you take at least US$40/CAN$40 dollars per day to budget for your optional activities and snacks along the way on all our North American Treks. This does not include money for food kitty and en route hotel expenses. We suggest you bring US $150 with you in cash. ATM’s and cash machines are readily available throughout North America and major credit cards are widely accepted throughout the country. Traveller’s checks are accepted and can be a safe way to take your funds but aren’t always the most practical. In some off the beaten track destinations ATM’s and cash machines may be limited. Credit card payment can’t be accepted for food kitty and enroute hotel payments.
Although it may not be customary in your country, it is normal and expected in North America to tip waiters, bar staff, any type of guide and taxi drivers. Service workers are paid a low wage and depend upon their tips for their livelihood. A minimum of 15% is standard in restaurants. Your trek leader works long and hard for you. He or she may well become your close friend during the trek, but they also need to pay their bills. If the leader's performance meets or exceeds your expectations we recommend a tip of US $5 per person, per day.

Helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon Party bus in Las Vegas Meeting other likeminded travellers who I believe will become good friends
Don't worry about going alone, most people are - just book it! Make sure you take plenty of warm clothes for camping - National parks are high up and get cold overnight The more effort/ energy you put into a trip and getting to know fellow travellers the more you will get back
