You’ll have the time of your life whilst away and we want to ensure that you have the skills and the know-how to do so safely. This one day course is specifically designed to make sure you are prepared for your travels and that you know as much as possible about travelling safely on your trip.

The course is run by an external company who specialise in travel safety and is specifically tailored to gap year trips. It is run by highly experienced travellers as well as ex-members of the British army.

In one day, students are given advice, warnings and responses to various situations they may face while travelling. The course is designed to teach the individual how to evaluate situations so they can avoid trouble and to give them the confidence to get off the beaten track and explore; i.e make the most of their gap year. The course has been running now for 7 years.

As well as providing invaluable safety training it is also a great way to meet other travellers before you go.

Prevention rather than cure

Everyone who travels around the world should give serious consideration to attending a safety course before they go. Whilst few travellers do run in to any serious trouble, a safety course gives peace of mind by helping prepare for any situation.

Customer Reviews

It was a really nice day in London, starting with being really easy to get to and a welcome coffee and meeting Charlie who was running the course. Once everyone had arrived and met each other we went to a separate room to discuss our travel plans. I thought it was really personal the way we each discussed our plans and Charlie related all stories and advice around our destinations.

We got given a good information pack about general advice and then lots of insider tips, Charlie was clearly well trained from extensive travels and military training. He was relating brilliant stories all day long, it was great and not only did i love all the advice, but found his stories fantastic and was getting very excited about going travelling!

We had a fantastic lunch, and breaks throughout the day to keep us fresh. I really felt I took a lot away from the course and I know my mum was pleased I went!!!

Highly recommend to anyone

The day is crammed full of information, tips, stories and interesting facts – you really feel like you’ve got your money’s worth. Charlie is captivating and it was really interesting to hear some of his past experiences. I’ve travelled before but have found myself in a couple of situations whilst away that I’m almost certain could have been avoided by being more aware and conscious of my surroundings; something that the course really emphasizes.

They make you realize that things don’t always go to plan on your travels but that’s the beauty of it – they focus on how to get the very best out of your travels and how to deal with things if something does go wrong. I also loved the fact that they really encourage you to read up on the area and culture of the countries you’re visiting and to get off the beaten track. I know the next time I travel will be the best because I’ll get so much more out of the experience.

Not only did I find it invaluable for future travels, it was also a great way to meet people doing the same thing as me. It put my mind at ease about travelling alone and I’ve kept in touch with a couple of the girls in my group. Some people were travelling to the same place around the same time so they have swapped details and are now planning on meeting up whilst they’re away.

I went travelling on my own for a year and had I known about the safety training course before I went, I definitely would have booked it. Everything is covered during the course in a fun and interactive way and you come out feeling much more confident about travelling alone. If you have any doubts or worries they will be answered for you and who knows there is a chance you may make travelling buddies before you go!
