Destination info

Ghana is in West Africa and renowned for having the warmest, friendliest people. It borders the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Togo and the Atlantic Ocean. Ghana is considered one of the safest places in Africa, with some of the friendliest people on the continent.

Accra is Ghana’s capital city and estimated to have a population of around two million. Accra is a large, sprawling city that is developing very fast. It is situated on the coast, with a port and several beach hotels where tourists may stay. Like any African Capital it is large, dusty, energetic, dirty, busy, and yet charming and unique!

Situated in Accra, Ghana's capital city, our tennis coaching project is perfect for those who want to showcase their love for tennis in the beautiful Ghana! With it's good weather all year round, your aim is to coach the children in all things tennis- from the perfect backhand to the ideal serve. You don't have to be an expert by any means; passion for the sport counts far more than ability.

You'll be working with the Ghanian Tennis Association (GTA) with the aim of nurturing the country's young tennis talent, as well as encouraging others to get involved with the sport. You're going to have a lot of fun, that's for sure!

Depending on your own preference and ability, you'll be working with children of different ages and skill levels during your time on the project. You'll be working with the GTA in a couple of different arenas- the National Tennis Centre and the National Sports College, which are both located in Accra.

You'll be on hand to help run the training sessions, and encouraged to work with players on an individual basis so you can really hone in to work on their strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, you'll be able to coach and participate in the training sessions for the Junior National Squads, which is for 12-16 year olds. These kids are dedicated and are keen to make it to become Ghana's first tennis star, so be prepared for a tough game!

You'll have approx 2 days off a week to get stuck in to the local culture, so as well as hitting the shops in Accra and having a good time with the nightlife in the centre, you could sit back and relax on the beautiful Ghanan beaches. Such a hard life...

There's loads of other cool things to check out whilst you're in Ghana too, from the gorgeous sandy beaches to the lush jungles and the ancient ruins. If you wanted, you could even take an African safari!
