A lone island in the middle of the ocean, covered in trees and greenery

Lowdown on the Thai Islands

By Real Travelling

Real Travelling's Mel and Becky shared their experience exploring the islands of Thailand. Read on to find out all about it

There's quite a lot to choose from, so we thought we'd give you a run down of what's what!

We headed to Phuket first, which is the largest of the islands, and the craziest we visited! What we thought was a nice relaxing beach retreat, soon changed, thanks to the rain. Instead, we tested out a few of the many bars and restaurants in the never-ending 'party zone' of Phuket, with some of the great people we met in our hostel. As a group, we decided to visit one of the infamous ping pong shows. (A decision, we later regretted, but it's something worth experiencing!)

The next island we visited was Phi Phi, again, still raining, so, unfortunately, we missed out on any valuable beach time, but we still had our cocktails, in the shelter of a bar! The top tip for Phi Phi Island when looking for a hostel, wait until you get there. There's not much of a selection online, however when you hit the pier, there are loads of rooms available. We learnt the hard way, our hostel was up a very large hill, with an endless number of stairs, all of which, were uneven. The views were great, and the monkey wake-up call was an experience, however, we were quite far from the action.

A must-see is the fire show on the beach, you can get involved if you want to, but watching was enough for us! Other islands include Koh Phangan, where the famous full moon parties take place. Sadly we weren't around for one of them, however, there are also half-moon and jungle parties to keep you entertained! Koh Tao is the one for diving. You can dive on the other islands, but this one has a wide range of diving resorts, and a cheap way to get your diving licence from certified professionals, but remember always check first!

There are lots of other islands to be explored, but we only made it to Phuket and Phi Phi this time. It just means we'll have to go back!
