So what is a gap year?
Well firstly, it doesn't have to be a year. In fact a gap year can be anything from 2 weeks to 2 years. Confused? Don't be!
The term 'gap year' describes a period of traveling, usually by students (but now increasingly by those taking career sabbaticals). Rather than going straight to college or university, students take time off to travel abroad, learn new skills or volunteer.
Gap travel offers you an opportunity to acquire a broader global perspective, foster independence and gain self-knowledge. It opens doors to the future, bridging the world of education to the road that lies ahead.
The main difference is that this kind of gap experience takes you to the heart of a country and puts you right in amongst the culture and the community. Above all, traveling should be fun, for everyone involved and it’s not only about volunteering. You can learn a new skill (try scuba diving), get paid work as you go (be a Jackaroo in Australia's Outback) or simply travel round the world. |

All our programs are designed to help you make the most of your ‘time out’. Rather than thinking about your gap experience as a vacation from your formal education, look at it this way… you will be taking ownership of your life, in a completely different culture, perhaps for the first time – and it’s an empowering learning experience – much more a part of your education, rather than a break from it.
