Help care for animals that have been victims of cruelty and neglect. It will touch your heart and be a hugely rewarding experience.

The Animal Sanctuary in California is a refuge and compassionate living centre for horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and other animals. These inhabitants have been rescued from cruelty, neglect, factory farms and slaughterhouses. As well as homing animals in need the Sanctuary works to promote public awareness of the need to prevent cruelty to farmed animals. Visitors are welcome to the sanctuary for tours and educational talks. The Staff also visit schools and colleges to educate them on their cause.

Some of the animals at the Sanctuary have been rescued when staff investigate and uncover cruelty cases. There are animals rescued that have been beaten, tortured, and mutilated. Others have been saved from slaughter or inhumane production sites. The Sanctuary is their chance to live the remainder of the lives in peace and with constant care.

Volunteers therefore become part of an important team of staff whose number one priority is the protection of animals. During your time at the sanctuary, the main focus of your job will be caring for the animals. This will mainly consist of such tasks as:

  • Barn Cleaning
  • Feeding and Watering
  • Health Care Assistance

Additional tasks that you may be able to get involved with are:

  • Conducting Tours
  • Special Events
  • Cruelty Investigations
  • Administration
  • Maintenance

You will volunteer for five days a week, eight hours per day. You are welcome to get involved in duties on your days off as well if you wish.
