The programme offers a fantastic chance to develop your cricket skills, take up coaching and tour New Zealand’s North Island!
Training Programme
During the programme, academy members will be responsible for sticking to their own training schedule. Working with a highly driven former international and NZ Level 3 coach, each player has a training logbook in order for their development to be more measurable and their progress realistic. The training will cover the following areas:
- Gym fitness work and flexibility training
- Cricket specific fitness training
- Spin bowling skills focusing on target and ball revolution
- Bowling machine sessions to improve batting and wicket keeping
- Fielding skills and a variety of fielding practice drills
- Pace bowling development - looking at bowling action, run up etc
- Video analysis of player’s techniques
- Group net sessions with other academy players
- Twice-weekly club practice sessions
- Net bowling to all International and First Class teams playing in Napier
Club Cricket
The Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association run all club and school cricket in Hawke’s Bay.
Club Cricket comprises of Premier Grade, Senior Grade, Senior School Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade and Women’s Grade. The Standard of the Premier Grade is very high with many District and 1st Class players involved. As an Academy member you will have the opportunity to play Premier Cricket if you are good enough, in the past the majority of Academy players have played in the Senior Grade. If possible the Academy like to put its own team in the Senior Grade with the best players being given Premier Clubs.
Coaching Opportunities
The association also run a number of coaching and umpiring courses during the season which members are encouraged to take part in, ideal prep for paid coaching opportunities which will be made available to you!
Cricket Tour
Whether you join for the half or full season you’ll be able to take part in a cricket tour during the Christmas and New Year break. Games are arranged with Club sides throughout the North Island, with plenty of free time available to go sightseeing while on your travels.

What’s Not Included in the Programme
- International flights to New Zealand
- Health and travel insurance, which must cover you for sports training
- Items of a personal nature
- Any trips/excursions above the mentioned itinerary
- Alcoholic beverages/extra snacks
- Petrol expenses for academy vehicles (allow $15 per week)
- Food during the Twenty20 cricket tour of the North Island
